Pa amb oli, nuestro plato más querido
admin - 6/10/16

Pa amb oli, our favorite dish

We don’t know anyone of the islands who not name this dish in his 5 favorite. At first glance it may seem 'too simple', but make good pa amb oli is not easy.
First of all, because the raw material is everything. It all starts with having a good country bread (white or brown depending on your tastes). You will find it in any bakery on the island and of course the rest of raw materials must also be local and top quality.

Well, we scrub a ‘ramallet’ tomato on the bread (bouquet. A special local tomato ideal to be scrubbed). Then we put a generous splash of extra virgin olive oil and a pinch of salt.
And we already have it. This would be the base of Pa amb oli (bread with olive oil), and now you can put any cheese, ham and even fish (cod, cuttlefish, sardines, salmon ...), the versatility of this dish is spectacular!
Don’t miss to put on the plate olives to accompany, a hot pepper or ‘fonoll marí’ (fennel vinaigrette).

This is one of the most popular dishes of the islands. We would risk saying that is the daily dinner 70% of the islanders.
Pa amb oli has become the signature dish of the Balearics for the simplicity of its preparation and how delicious it is. You can’t go away without trying it! You will sure repeat it at home, even if you don’t find the same ingredients.

In any bar or restaurant of the islands you will find a good pa amb oli, and what to say of the pambolierias!
Given the success of this dish they have emerged some restaurants especialized only in pa amb olis. Our recommendation: Restaurant s'Hostal in Montuïri.

Bon appétit!
