Sant Jaume - portada 2015In the Balearic Islands, parties of the municipal employers are celebrated like nowhere else and the next pattern marked on the calendar is; San Jaime, held on 25 July. Those that you be staying in one of our hotels in the Bay of Alcudia have much luck, St. James is the patron saint of Alcudia and you have the opportunity to experience these spectacular celebrations of Mallorca.

The celebrations of St. James in Alcudia are known throughout the island due to the large number of festivals and activities held during the ten days of celebrations. These celebrations attract many residents of the island and many visitors who are in Mallorca for those dates.

From our blog we will try to summarize the activities that have already taken place and those that are yet to come this holiday season. Although I advised that it is a difficult task and we recommend you visit the festival program by clicking here to inform you of all acts and celebrations.

San Jaime celebrations this year began onSmall motorboat in Majorca sea bay July 16, day in which Garcia Jaume Serra, director of the Municipal Band d'Alcudia, made the opening speech of the celebrations. Those who attended the event enjoyed the concert later "Clarinet coloristic," the first of many concerts that are taking place these days in Alcudia.

On Friday the 17th, just one day after the proclamation, was held at the "Paseo Mare de Déu de la Victòria" traditional Roman festival, which his aides come dressed in Roman attire. In addition to this traditional festival, among the many events that took place the days after the proclamation are: a chess tournament, a popular gymkhana, the opening of multiple exposures, beach soccer tournament, some concerts, an aquatic children's party, cinema and outdoor theater ... in short, a whole range of possibilities to be enjoyed Alcudia. But much remains to celebrate, we continue.

Today you can visit for free the archaeological site Stadttor von Alcudiaof Pollentia, from 19:00. Pollentia is the most important archaeological site in Mallorca, it is a Roman city founded in 123 BC and whose site was discovered in the seventeenth century. The hard work of excavation conducted over the years has allowed that today you can visit the whole city and feel as if you gave a walk through the streets of this ancient and important civilization. This is the most important visit for those who come to Alcudia. You can also attend sports gymnastics display in the walk of "Pere Ventayol", at 19:15, and then go to dinner outdoors, that is done in the walk of "Virgin of Victory", at 21:00. These are just some of the events you can go in the coming days until July 25.

Sunrise AlcudiaOn the 25th, the feast of St. James, we recommend that you dedicate a day to the city. In the morning you can’t lose "Cercavila", at 11:15, a walking tour by Alcudia in charge of the Municipal Band. Then relax on the beach and a walk along the coast. And at night, after dinner, philharmonic concert of the Municipal Band of Alcudia, at 22:30, to then finish the evening with big fireworks display at 12 pm, in the "Plaza Carles V" undoubtedly a magical way to end the evening and parties.

Again remember, to those that after July 25 might want more, you can consult the entire program on the website of the Ayuntamiento de Alcudia.

Finally, mention that every three years, is held during the holidays one of the most heartfelt acts of Alcudia. This is the "Triennal del Sant Crist", a procession held on July 26 to commemorate the miracle happened in 1507, when the "Sant Crist d'Alcúdia" sweated blood and water, ending a harsh dry season. Unfortunately we have to wait until next year to enjoy this tradition, as it is in 2016 when he met the three years since the last procession.

We wish you all a happy holiday of St. James! And do not hesitate to ask in our hotels in Alcudia more information or any questions about these traditional celebrations.
