We are going to show you some of the best places to stay in Mallorca. In this article you will discover the strengths of each area and all its attractions. So stay with us if you're interested in finding out which area of Mallorca is best for you, depending on the type of trip you're planning.

Areas to stay in Mallorca

Join us on a tour of the different areas of Mallorca where you can stay if you're spending a few days on the island. In this article, we'll show you what each of these enclaves has to offer, depending on the type of holiday you're looking for.

1. Palma de Mallorca

The island's capital is a centre of culture, art and gastronomy. Staying here means having museums, art galleries, shopping areas, the stunning Palma Cathedral and a wide range of restaurants, including Michelin-starred ones, at your fingertips.

The proximity of beautiful beaches and easy access to other points on the island make Palma an ideal base from which to explore all of Mallorca, making it one of the best places to stay.

2. Alcúdia

Located about 40 minutes by car from Mallorca airport, the area around Alcúdia is the perfect place to stay in Mallorca if you're looking for beaches and paradisiacal coves with soft and wide sand, ideal for family tourism and also well connected to the main points of interest on the island.

It is also a very lively enclave with lots of life, especially during the day. Nearby you can enjoy Playa de Muro, some of the most popular beach clubs in Mallorca, discover the charms of the S'Albufera Natural Park, visit Pollença or get to know Cap de Formentor.

3. La Colonia de San Jordi

La Colonia de Sant Jordi, located in the south of Mallorca, is a charming destination known for its tranquil atmosphere and beautiful unspoilt beaches such as Es Trenc and Es Carbó, which offer crystal clear waters and white sands.

This small fishing village has become an ideal place for those looking for a relaxing experience away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist destinations. The area also offers excellent opportunities to explore nature, enjoy water sports and sample the exquisite local cuisine in its many restaurants.

4. Sóller

If you are a traveller who loves rural tourism and would like to stay in less crowded destinations that are close to nature, then Sóller is one of the places you should consider for your stay in Mallorca. Surrounded by extensive citrus groves dating back to the 13th century, this charming village offers an authentic and relaxing experience away from the hustle and bustle of the island's main tourist centres.

Moreover, its proximity to the Sierra de Tramuntana (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) makes it the perfect destination for those travellers who are not looking for sun and beach tourism.

5. Portals Nous

Close to Palma de Mallorca (just 15 minutes by car) is the exclusive area of Portals Nous. This area is particularly recommended for those looking for the perfect balance between relaxation and a festive atmosphere during their stay. This charming enclave is famous for its luxurious marina, Puerto Portals, which attracts luxury yachts and offers an excellent selection of quality restaurants and boutiques.

Its proximity to Palma also makes it easy and convenient to explore the capital and its cultural attractions.

6. Santanyí

With its rustic charm, proximity to stunning natural landscapes and quality hotel accommodation, Santanyí is one of the best places to stay in Mallorca. Located in the southeast of Mallorca, this traditional Mallorcan village is famous for its distinctive architecture, markets and a cosy atmosphere that invites you to explore its cobbled streets and squares.

Santanyí is close to some of the most beautiful beaches and coves on the island, such as Cala Llombards and Cala Mondragó, with crystal clear waters and fine sand, ideal for relaxing under the Mediterranean sun. The area also boasts an excellent range of accommodation, from boutique hotels such as Can Ferrereta to rural retreats.

7. Cala d´Or

On the east coast of Mallorca lies the area of Cala d'Or, one of the best places to stay in Mallorca for those looking for fine sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Nearby are popular and recommended coves such as Cala Gran, Cala Esmeralda and Cala Serena.

If you enjoy water sports, you'll find plenty to choose from in this area. Finally, the cuisine in Cala d'Or deserves special mention. So if you're looking for all of these things, Cala d'Or is the place for you.
