VIVA RECOMIENDA: Ferreries - Malvasia – Castell d’Alaró
admin - 6/21/16

This is one of the entries that we like most: to recommend plans. If you have chosen us for your holiday you will have to prioritize some plans, because with the Balearic Islands you'll never finish...Baronia_vista

We begin with Ferreries, a beautiful inland town of Menorca, located between Ciutadella and Es Mercadal. It is small, but no less important. Ferreries is a town of great commercial and industrial activity. Especially emphasizes the leather and footwear factory Mascaro, which exports all over the world.

Ferreries is the town located at higher elevation in the island, 141 meters above sea level. In the municipality you will find some of the best beaches on the island, such as Cala Galdana and Cala Mitjana. But it doesn’t end here, you should explore the town, walk through its streets and visit the Church of Sant Bartomeu (s.XIX) and the remains of the Moorish castle Agayz Sent on Mount Santa Agueda.

We follow the recommendation with Banyalbufar wines, made from Malmsey, a grape variety grown only in this beautiful town in the Majorcan Tramuntana.

It is believed to be originally from Greece, and can be also found in some parts of the Mediterranean as Sitges (Catalonia), Sardinia, Canary Islands or Banyalbufar.

The prestige of wines made from Malmsey is unquestionable. Do you want to try?

And we end our tour with a easy excursion: the castle of Alaró. The starting point is in the restaurant Es Verger parking, at the foot of the mountain. The journey will take you an hour and a half, and the difficulty is low.

You will meet up with spectacular views and Alaró Castle, a beloved rock castle that was built by Christians to defend against pirates attacks. It’s enabled to sleep there if you fancy. You’ll find all the information here.

We hope you like it!
