Las obras de construcción de esta catedral, de estilo gótico levantino, empezaron en 1229 y no fue hasta 1346 cuando se dieron por concluidas, aunque a día de hoy siga siendo objeto de modificaciones y remodelaciones, como la que realizó el artista mallorquín Miquel Barceló, quien fue también el encargado del diseño de la cúpula de la Sala de los Derechos Humanos de la ONU, que en esta ocasión impregnó de su particular estilo una de las capillas de la Catedral, la capilla del Santísimo, en la que se recrea un conocido pasaje del Evangelio: el milagro de los panes y los peces. Otro gran artista que dejó su sello en la Catedral fue el arquitecto modernista Antoni Gaudí, que a principios de siglo XX hizo algunas remodelaciones como trasladar retablos y colocar el altar mayor frente a la cátedra episcopal.

Además de por su espectacularidad arquitectónica, la Seu bien merece una visita por su impresionante rosetón: el mayor de todos los construidos en el mundo gótico y que se encuentra sobre el altar. Este rosetón se convierte en el protagonista, dos días al año, de un espectáculo que sin duda os sorprenderá: el 11 del mes 11 y el 2 del mes 2 de cada año, la luz del sol incide sobre un rosetón haciendo que se proyecte sobre el otro y se forme un 8 perfecto lleno de preciosos colores.
