El silencio, el respeto y sobre todo la fe que se sienten durante estas procesiones es incluso mayor cuando la figura del Cristo de la Sangre llega a la calle, el día del jueves santo, y miles de creyentes le siguen por Palma. Esta procesión se convertirá en una de las experiencias más profundas y emotivas que podrás sentir a lo largo de tu estancia en Mallorca.

La semana santa es también una época de comidas especiales, ya que como la mayoría de las celebraciones, la semana santa y la Pascua traen a Mallorca un sabor único, en este caso basado en un producto delicioso: el cordero. Después de visitar las procesiones y probar algunos de los platos típicos llega el gran día. El día de Pascua puedes visitar la Catedral, uno de los edificios góticos más impresionantes del mundo, donde se celebra cada año la tradicional misa de Pascua oficiada por el obispo de Mallorca y a la que tradicionalmente asisten los reyes de España.

From this Wednesday until next Friday night, Christians commemorate the last days of Jesuschrist. And to make it there is nothing in Spain more typical than the processions of the Holy Week, where lots of Nazarenes go through the streets remembering the scenes of Christ’s Passion. The silence, the respect and the faith that are felt during these processions is even bigger when the figure of El Crist de la Sang gets to the street, on the Holy Thursday, and thousand of believers follow it through Palma. This procession is one of the deepest and most moving experiences that you’ll be able to live if you’re staying in Mallorca.

And Holy Week is also time for special cuisine, as most of the important celebrations, Easter and Holy Week bring to Mallorca a unique taste and in this case it is based on a delicious product: the lamb. We already told you everything about the “frito mallorquín” as it is one of the typical dishes you can have in Mallorca during Easter and it is cooked using many parts of the lamb. But the “frito mallorquín” is not the only thing cooked with lamb that you will love: all you have to do is trying the “panades”. During Holy Week most Majorcan families meet in order to prepare this meat pies that have been cooked in Mallorca since more than six centuries ago. But the panades are not the only thing that is cooked during these days in most of the houses of people who live in Mallorca: after a good “panada” all you need is a desert and that’s why they also cook “robiols” and “crespells”: the first ones filled with jam, cottage or cream and the second ones with many shapes.

After the procession and the typical meals, the great day arrives: on Easter day you can go to the Cathedral, one of the most impressive Gothic buildings in the world. That’s where every year the traditional Easter mass is celebrated by the bishop of Mallorca and the king and the queen of Spain attend every year to it.
