Going on holiday with babies can feel like a complicated task, especially if youâre first time parents. However, if everything is well organised it can be a fantastic experience. Babies are great company as they donât need anything but their parents, food, clothes, nappiesâŠListen to our advice and youâll enjoy an unforgettable holiday with your little one:
1- Coast or mountains?
You should be clear about where you want to go with your baby. Although we donât tend to be too strict about timing when on holiday, weâd recommend that you maintain your babyâs normal routine for feeding, naps and bath timesâŠThis way, youâll baby will feel right at home!
If you decide to head to the beach of Mallorca, you should keep your baby in the shade, covered up and well hydrated, as their skin is still sensitive. Avoid the heat of the day from midday until 5pm and of course, you mustnât forget to use sun cream! If you fancy taking your baby for a dip in the sea, make sure to take their hat and favourite toys.
On the other hand, if you head for the mountains, donât forget sun cream and insect repellent. Donât let anything get in the way of your plans!
2- Home or abroad?
When travelling with babies, itâs essential to have everything you need at hand. So, wherever you decide to go, keep an eye on the temperature and find out whether it will be hot all day long, or if it will cool down at night. This way youâll know whether to pack summer clothes or perhaps a few more layers for when it cools down.
If youâre travelling within the EU, youâll be able to travel with your National Identity Card (where applicable)/passport, but if you go further afield, your passport is a must. Travelling within the EU has its benefits, as you can request a European Health Card that will cover any health services for a period of one year.
3- Should you go by plane?
If youâre thinking of travelling by plane with your baby in tow, bear in mind that airlines only allow babies over the age of 7 days old to travel. Donât forget to consult your paediatrician first so that they confirm whether or not your baby is fit to fly.
The babyâs car seat should be approved for placing on the seat next to you in the cabin. On long haul flights, some airlines may even offer cots. Perfect!
4- Pack your bags in good time
As we all know, itâs better to be safe than sorry. To make sure that you donât forget anything, pack your suitcases a few days before you travel. Make a list of everything you need and put it all together in one place.
A first aid kit with the following is essential:
- Thermometer
- Antipyretics
- Allergy medicines and anti-histamines
- Dressings and plasters
5- Relax
The best way of helping your baby to relax is for you to be relaxed, too. If you treat it like an adventure, itâs more attractive for your baby. If they have a good experienceâŠtheyâll always want to travel!
Lastly, choose a good family hotel as they tend to have everything you need for your holiday with babies or young children. Enjoy!
