Mallorca is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Spain, and it's also one of the best places to plan a getaway with children at any time of the year.

Mallorca has beautiful villages, stunning coves and an excellent range of leisure activities for the whole family.

If you're planning on travelling to Mallorca with kids, we suggest you take a look at all the options the island has to offer so that you can plan your trip accordingly.

Even so, keep in mind that travelling with children means travelling at a different pace. You'll have to organise your schedule with a certain amount of flexibility, taking into account their needs and setting aside time for them to play and have fun.

Basic tips for travelling to Mallorca with kids

 Before leaving home

Involving children in the trip right from the very start is the best way to motivate them for your next trip.

You could show them where you're going on a map, along with some photos of the places you're going to visit. Tell them what they'll be able to eat, and make a list of what they need to pack in their backpack.

Of course, before the trip it also helps to get all your documents ready, making sure they're in date, and getting the suitcases and bags ready that you're going to take. A good first-aid kit is also a good option.

During the journey

If you are travelling to Mallorca with kids, you should book your tickets well in advance.

When buying your plane ticket, remember to tell them if you're travelling with a baby. An airline-approved car seat is often a good option, and you could check if your airline accepts them.

Regarding the price, airlines usually charge different fares for babies (up to 2 years old) and children (from 2 to 11), although each airline is different.

Once on the plane or boat, and, even if it won't be a very long journey, it's advisable to have things on hand to keep your kids amused (colouring books, games, etc.), while avoiding any noisy toys that might disturb other travellers.

It’s also advisable to carry a few snacks in your backpack.

Where to stay

Choosing the right accommodation when travelling with kids is a must.

Although each family's requirements may vary, it's advisable to choose hotels or aparthotels that have a kitchen in the room, as well as a restaurant, gardens, and children's playgrounds.

It's also good if they offer other services and facilities, such as children's entertainment, games areas, parks, a library, a pool, etc.

One of the best options for travelling to Mallorca with kids is to opt for an all-inclusive hotel, and in this way you can enjoy all its services and facilities at a fixed price.

Our VIVA Sunrise, VIVA Eden Lago, and VIVA Blue & Spa hotels offer this option, which is a great way for families to save money and enjoy extra convenience.

How to get around the island

Renting a car is a good option if you're travelling to Mallorca with kids. You'll be able to explore the island at your leisure and it's the most efficient way to adapt to the island's opening hours.

If you want to rent a car in Mallorca, we recommend that you do so well in advance, both for reasons of availability and price. Bear in mind that you usually have to pay extra for car seats.

If any of your children are under 3, they'll need time to rest during the day, especially if you're sightseeing, and it'll be important to bring a stroller or a baby carrier.

What to do with kids in Mallorca

Children should learn that on a family trip each person should be able to do what they want. It's not only about doing activities for them, but finding the right schedule to keep everyone happy.

In Mallorca you can visit many charming villages, such as Valldemossa or Sóller.

The latter has a beautiful port and an old wooden tram that your kids will love.

The centre of Palma de Mallorca is also a good place to visit if you're travelling with children, as many of its streets are pedestrianised and there are a great variety of shops and businesses.

As for the beaches and coves, make sure that they're easy to access and have all the services you'll need.

One of our recommended coves for families is Cala Mesquida, which is surrounded by an extensive pine forest whose green tones contrast with the white sand and the intense turquoise waters.

The beaches of Alcudia and Muro are very close to our VIVA all-inclusive hotels, and are ideal if you're travelling to Mallorca with children.
