Have you ever visited Mallorca's museums? Mallorca isn't just a beautiful island. Aside from its spectacular beaches, it also has a rich cultural heritage. This Balearic Island has so many unique finds for art lovers. Today Hotels VIVA, will tell you about our 10 favourite museums in Mallorca.

1. Museu de Mallorca

Among the different museums in Palma, the Museu de Mallorca is an essential stop. Located in the Ca la Gran Cristiana, it used to be the palace of the Counts of Aiamans. It's a Gothic style palace in a small street in the city centre. In this museum, you'll find all sorts of treasures relating to the island's history.

2. Es Baluard Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art

Inaugurated in 2004, it's one of Mallorca's biggest and most popular museums. It features more than 700 works by local and international artists, that have or had a special relationship with the island. In the galleries, you'll find works by Francesca Martí, Picasso, Rebecca Horn, Miquel Barceló, and other great artists.

In Es Baluard, the entry price is a little different from most. The general entry price is €6, however, if you arrive on a bicycle, you'll just pay €2. Also, each Friday the visitors can choose the entry price, paying whatever they think it's worth.

3. Museum of the Royal Palace of La Almudaina

If you want to feel like you're in a fairy tale about kings and queens, you should visit this historic residence of the Mallorcan kings. One of the most interesting Mallorcan museums, it's even a national treasure.

In the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, you'll get to know more about the island's history. You'll also be able to enjoy its incredible architecture, tapestries, and Gothic and Islamic style furniture. This museum is right across from Mallorca's Cathedral Museum, so it's a good idea to visit both on the same day.

4. Museu d'Art Sacre

The Museu d'Art Sacre (MASM) is the oldest museum institute on the island. Here religious works of all kinds are on show. It's also called the Diocesan Museum of Mallorca. Among its works you'll discover the island's history of Christianity.

5. Juan March Foundation

Located in the oldest private mansion on Mallorca, the Juan March Foundation Museum is the home of an incredible collection of Spanish artists' works from the twentieth century. Think of the likes of Juan Gris, Joan Miró, Pablo Ruiz Picasso, y Salvador Dalí. In this museum in Mallorca, you'll also find displays on contemporary national and international artists and movements, which regularly change.

6. Frédéric Chopin and George Sand Museum

The Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa was where composer Frédéric Chopin and his wife, writer George Sand, chose to spend the winter of 1838/39. Here’s where Chopin's Preludes, Op. 28 was born, as well as Sand's travel notebook titled "A Winter in Mallorca". And you can visit this same place today! You'll find the original piano that Chopin used, as well as other items that will help you get to know the lives of these two great artists a little more.

This Mallorcan museum is charming both inside as well as outside. Why? It's located within the monument complex of the Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa, surrounded by natural beauty and incredible architecture.

7. Miró Mallorca Foundation

The Catalan artist had a special link to Mallorca, and this art gallery reflects that connection. Miró Mallorca has more than 6,000 items from the artist, including paintings, sculptures, sketches, drawings, and his studio, that’s really a work of art in itself. It's been kept intact since the artist's death.

8. CCA Andratx

The Contemporary Art Centre of Andratx is a place that's dedicated to modern and contemporary art. It's one of Mallorca's most important museums. Inside, you'll enjoy paintings, sculptures, and photographs from local and international artists. You can also buy exclusive pieces.

9. Robert Graves Museum

The British poet Robert Graves lived in the place called Deià from when he was 56 years old until the day of his death. That's where he wrote "I, Claudius", a novel that he used to pay the mortgage on the house that today is the headquarters of the Robert Graves Foundation. It's yet another of Mallorca's museums where you can discover the lives of the artists that lived on this island, in a unique setting.

10. Son Fornés Archaeological Museum

It's one of Mallorca's open-air museums, and it's ideal to visit with the whole family. Palma's Archaeological Museum will help you to better understand the island's complex history. It's the only archaeological museum on the Balearic Islands and it's dedicated to one of the area's Talayotic sites.
