In this article, we’re going to let you in on a part of Mallorca you perhaps didn’t know about; the island is also known for its excellent wines. This is yet another one of the charms you’ll find in the Balearics.

Mallorca’s wines are very highly praised by experts across the globe, meaning there are many wine cellars and tours around the island that are really worth the experience.

Two denominations of origin

Mallorca is home to two denominations of origin: Binissalem-Mallorca and Pla Llevant. They’re both different, but with one thing in common: their exceptional quality.

The most famous and praised is possibly the Binissalem-Mallorca denomination of origin. It’s produced in the central part of the island, just half an hour from Palma. The magic formula behind its success remains a secret among the producers, but it’s probably related to the fact that the vines are protected from the wind, while completely influenced by the Mediterranean climate in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana. This makes for spectacular, top quality wines.

The wine route starts in the centre of the island

The best way to find out everything about Mallorca’s wines is by travelling around Santa María, Binissalem, Consell and Secelles, as these are home to the top wine cellars. We’d recommend the following:

Bodega Butxet

This small, family-run wine cellar produces three types of red wines: Merlot, Cabernet and Syra. They all have a captivating, fruity aroma! It’s very close to the sea and the S’Albufera natural park, meaning this vineyard produces unique, smooth, creamy, easy drinking wines. Its wines are made to be enjoyed and have won both national and international awards. Visit this wine cellar, taste its wines and explore its vineyard.

Bodega Galmes i Ribot

Fourteen hectares of vineyards which produce unique, characteristic wines which reflect the work and spirit of the Ribot-Galmés family. They specialise in the crop of various Mallorcan grapes: Callet, Fogoneu, Prensall Blanc, Giró Ros and Gorgollassa. In 2010, the owners began to transform their vines to offer ecological agriculture, and just two years later they began to produce organic wines. Visit the Galmes i Ribot vineyard and wine cellar, taste its wines and homemade seasonal produce. Everything is organic!

Bodegas Son Prim

This wine cellar is located in a flat area, in a simple but welcoming building made of stone. Everything is organised so you can enjoy a sensational tasting of the marvellous Son Prim (Cabernet Sauvignon) wine, undoubtedly one of Mallorca’s best.

They charmingly tell you about the history of the wine cellar while you can visit the tanks and oak barrels, where this wine is left until perfectly aged.

Bodegas José L. Ferrer

This wine cellar makes for a more commercial visit. In total you can taste 4 wines and there really is something for everyone. That’s why this is a highly recommended visit. You’ll never get bored here as you’ll always end up tasting a wine that’s a perfect match for your palate.

Bodegas Ribas

This wine cellar is recognised both by locals and tourists of all nationalities alike. It’s more than 300 years old and is always in search of the perfect wines (there are 5 brands to choose from), in stunning, traditional and very special surroundings.

By car, the 5 wine cellars are located just a short distance from Vanity Golf, an Adults Only Hotel perfect for enjoying pure relaxation, whether that’s in our Balneum Spa or simply enjoying a laid back bike ride while you take in the stunning Mallorcan landscape. If you’re a wine lover or are curious about wine, come and visit Mallorca and enjoy a tour of its key wine cellars!
