Tucked away in a north point of Mallorca is one of the island’s most emblematic places: the Formentor peninsula. Here is a paradise of cliffs, white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters.
The Cap de Formentor is the meeting point between the Sierra de Tramuntana and the Mediterranean. It’s also a place of spectacular cliffs, where pairs of Eleonora’s falcon make their nests, and a migration point for many seabirds during the winter.
You can reach this area by road or by boat, from the port of Pollensa and the port of Alcudia. On behalf of Hotels VIVA we’d like to invite you to discover Formentor and get acquainted with our selection of places to visit in this part of Mallorca.
Formentor beach is a paradise that combines the botanical charms of Mallorca’s pine trees with the island’s most attractive coastal landscapes. It is located in a bay with stunning views of the mountains. This beach, which is a kilometre long, is known for its crystal-clear waters and tranquillity, owing to the fact that it is located in part of the island where development is forbidden.
In addition to the tranquillity that presides over the beach, there is no lack of such essential amenities as showers, sun loungers and sunshades. There are also two restaurants; one is a buffet-style establishment while the other offers more varied fare.
This beach is ideal for the entire family, because as well as offering relatively shallow areas for children, you can also try snorkelling and rent pedalos, windsurfing and stand-up surfing equipment, with a school where you can learn these sports.
Formentor lighthouse is one of the peninsula’s key places. Although the structure is not open to visitors, it is surrounded by rocky outcrops with stunning views of the famous cliffs offering spectacular sunsets and incomparable birdwatching opportunities.
The area boasts a small carpark and a host of lookout points for taking splendid photos. Indeed, if it’s a clear day, you might even be able to see the island of Menorca on the horizon. At the lighthouse you’ll also find a bar, providing the chance to take the weight off your feet and have a drink.
When you visit Formentor you’ll come to the realisation that round every corner there’s a perfect landscape. At the highest point of its nine kilometre-long road, you’ll find the Colomer lookout point, located at a height of 232 metres. This is the place where visitors and locals alike take their quintessential Formentor and Mallorca photos.
The landscape is framed by one of the flanks of the Sierra del Cavall Bernat, the intense azure blue of the Mediterranean Sea and the small island of Colomer. From here you can also get to Talaia d’Albercutx, where you’ll enjoy the finest panoramic views of Formentor beach, the bay of Pollensa, the Formentor peninsula and the Tramuntana coast.
Naturally, no tour would be complete without accommodation, a place where you’ll be able to recharge your batteries to continue savouring Mallorca’s marvels. Make your early booking for this summer at any of our Hotels VIVA accommodation options and allow us to provide you with the finest holidays.
