Having a return flight scheduled from Palma Airport (PMI) at 22:00 or 23:00 is one of the most popular options for making the most of a holiday in Mallorca. However, this clashes head-on with international hotel policy, which generally sets a compulsory room departure (check-out) before 12:00 noon. This time difference creates a “logistical gap” of almost 10 hours, in which families face an operational problem: they do not know what to do with their heavy suitcases or how to deal with the heat and sweat of a day at the beach without having their own bathroom before flying.
At Hotels VIVA, we believe that your departure day is still a full day of holiday, not an endless waiting room. We have structured our infrastructure and reception services so that at no point do you feel we have “thrown you out” of our facilities.
The aim of this technical guide is to explain exactly the three operational solutions we offer at our resorts —Luggage Storage, Courtesy Room and Late Check-out—, breaking down their rules of use, costs and protocols so that you can organise your last day with complete precision.

Luggage logistics: security and mobility without the load
The first step at 12:00 is to free yourself from the weight. Dragging a 20-kilogram suitcase through the hotel lobby is not a viable option if you intend to keep enjoying your day.
The luggage room
In all our Hotels VIVA complexes, we have a closed and supervised storage room. Its operation is simple: once you complete the check-out procedure and hand in the keys to your apartment, our reception team will give you access to this room. It is a secure space where you can leave your checked suitcases and large bags from midday until the exact time your transfer comes to collect you or you need to drive to the airport.
The “transition hand luggage” trick
The golden rule of the expert traveller is to avoid opening your main suitcase once it has been left in storage. Opening a tightly packed bag in the middle of the reception lobby to look for a comb or clean clothes is an awkward situation.
We recommend preparing a small separate backpack the night before (your transition luggage) that will accompany you during your last day at the pool or beach. This backpack should contain strictly:
- The swimwear you will use during the day.
- A plastic bag with an airtight (zip-type) seal to store that wet swimwear at the end of the day so it does not dampen the rest of your belongings.
- Sun cream and sunglasses.
- A complete change of clean, dry and comfortable clothes for travelling on the plane.
- Toiletries in bottles under 100 ml packed in their transparent bag, ready for airport security control.
The “Courtesy Room” (Shower Room): how our flagship solution works
This is the answer to the logistical question that generates the most traffic and concern at our reception desks: “Where can we shower so we do not board the plane covered in chlorine and sand?”
Technical definition of the space
It is vital to understand that the courtesy room or Shower Room is not a room for sleeping or resting. It is a private, functional and air-conditioned space, prepared by our housekeeping team, which has a full shower, washbasin, mirror and changing area. It is designed exclusively for final hygiene before leaving the resort.
Booking system and rules of use (The 30-minute rule)
To ensure that all guests with night-time flights can enjoy this service without bottlenecks, the courtesy room operates through a strict prior booking system.
We advise you to go to reception the day before your check-out (or first thing the same morning) to book your time slot. Turns are assigned in blocks of 30 minutes per family/room. This time is calculated precisely to allow for a quick shower, a change of clothes and handing over the space, so that our cleaning team can get it ready for the next user.
Equipment included to lighten your suitcase
To make logistics easier for you and avoid having to use your own toiletries (which should already be packed and dry in your checked suitcase), at Hotels VIVA we equip this courtesy room with completely clean towels, dispensers of high-quality eco-friendly gel and shampoo, and a hairdryer. This way, your only concern will be to bring your clean clothes in your transition backpack.
Calculating the “Late Check-out”: when is it worth paying for?
While the courtesy room is free and rotating, the Late Check-out is a premium service that lets you keep ownership, privacy and access to your own apartment, generally until 18:00.
When is it mathematically and operationally worthwhile?
In financial and stress terms, paying the Late Check-out supplement is highly recommended if you fit “The Nap Factor”. If you are travelling with infants or children aged 0 to 3, their circadian rhythms demand deep rest between 13:00 and 16:00. Trying to get a baby to sleep their nap in a pushchair next to the pool in the middle of August is a guarantee of irritability and family stress. Paying for the room extension allows you to keep the child’s sleep routine, pack your bags in complete peace and shower without time restrictions.
Availability and transparency policy
It is important to stress that, for logistical reasons, this service cannot be guaranteed or booked months in advance during the online purchase process. The availability of an apartment until 18:00 depends strictly on the hotel’s occupancy level on that specific day and on whether new guests have been assigned that same room. For this reason, the protocol requires you to check and arrange this extension directly at your hotel reception 24 hours before your official departure.
Designing the perfect last day at our hotels
With luggage and shower logistics sorted, the last day becomes an excellent opportunity to make the most of the facilities. Below, we suggest three usage scenarios based on the location and characteristics of our complexes.
The children’s water profile at VIVA Sunrise
If you are staying at VIVA Sunrise, located in Port d’Alcúdia, the aim is to tire out the energy of the little ones so they sleep throughout the night-time flight. After handing in the keys at 12:00 and leaving your suitcases in our storage room, head straight to the Pirate Ship pool. You can have lunch at our snack bar next to the pool, take part in the afternoon children’s entertainment activities and, at 18:00, use your turn in the courtesy room. You will leave the hotel clean, fed and ready to sleep on the transfer.
The sports and relaxation profile at VIVA Blue & Spa
If your base is VIVA Blue & Spa in Playa de Muro, we suggest a dual approach. Make the most of the morning to do one last cycling or walking route through the neighbouring S’Albufera Natural Park. On returning at midday, store your bike safely at our Cycling Station. Use the afternoon to relax your muscles in our Spa circuit or unwind on our Balinese beds. A courtesy shower in the mid-afternoon will be the perfect finishing touch to a flawless sporting retreat.
The purely beach profile at VIVA Cala Mesquida Resort & Suites
Being right on the seafront of one of the wildest beaches in Mallorca allows you to extend your time in the sun. At VIVA Cala Mesquida Resort & Spa, you can spend the whole day on the golden sands and turquoise waters of the cove. As you do not have the pressure of checking out hastily to rush to the airport, you can enjoy the beach until 17:00, knowing that the logistics of cleaning up, changing clothes and collecting your suitcases are completely sorted at our facilities just a few steps from the sand.
Frequently asked questions about check-out (Operational FAQ)
To resolve any informational friction, here we detail the answers to our guests’ most common operational doubts on their final day:
Will my All Inclusive wristband be cut off at 12:00 when I check out?
Our corporate policy at Hotels VIVA aims for maximum satisfaction. As a general rule, the All Inclusive or Half Board package includes an exact number of services (dinners, lunches, breakfasts) corresponding to the nights of your stay. If, on your arrival day (check-in), you missed lunch due to a late flight, you can enjoy that compensatory lunch on your departure day after 12:00. If you have already used all your allocated meals, the computer system will end your meal plan at 12:00. However, you can continue to consume in our bars and restaurants by paying the corresponding amount, or use the vending machines.
Can I keep using the pools, sun loungers and towels after handing in my room key?
Yes, absolutely. We consider guests with late flights as fully entitled clients in our water areas and sun terrace throughout the day. You can use the pools, the loungers and the communal sports areas. We recommend not returning your pool towel until the moment you are going to use the courtesy shower or leave the complex.
How far in advance should I leave the northern hotels for Palma Airport (PMI)?
The mathematical calculation is essential so you do not miss your flight. The journey by car or private transfer from Alcúdia, Playa de Muro or Cala Mesquida to the airport ranges between 45 and 60 minutes under normal conditions. However, in July and August, the Ma-13 motorway usually has heavy traffic, especially at the bottlenecks near Inca or at the airport exit itself.
Adding this to the 2 regulatory hours airlines require for check-in and security control, our strict recommendation is to leave the hotel gates a minimum of 3 hours and 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time of your flight.
With this structured planning and the unconditional support of the Hotels VIVA reception teams, the last day of your holiday will stop being a stressful and exhausting formality, and instead become a day of genuine enjoyment, extending your rest until the very last minute before boarding.
