Don't know where to see the best sunsets in Mallorca? Today, here at Hotels VIVA, we’d like to give you a guide to our favourite locations to see the sun go down.
Sunsets are special moments, the halfway point between day and night. The sky gives us a unique display of pink, coral and orange colors, the like of which is never repeated in exactly the same way.
Sunsets are very different from one season to the next. For example, when we’re close to the solstices, the sunset is longer and more colourful, as the sun is more inclined and it takes longer to set.
The varying shades of red are related to atmospheric pressure and the distance light has to travel to reach our eyes.
Whatever the case may be, sunsets inspire calm and tranquility, and where we share them with someone special, it’ll create some unforgettable memories, perfect for a romantic getaway.
5 of the best sunsets in Mallorca that you simply can’t miss
Our island’s unique landscape has created many picture-postcard spots where you can enjoy beautiful sunsets all year round. Some of the best sunsets in Mallorca are:
Mirador de Sa Foradada
Any setting in the Tramuntana mountain range is ideal for watching the sun go down, and the Mirador Sa Foradada viewpoint has become an iconic spot for enjoying a sunset in Mallorca.
This natural viewpoint is a rocky outcrop on the coast, a "natural circle" strategically located between the municipalities of Valldemossa and Deià.
One of its main attractions is its natural surroundings, full of vegetation that seems to pierce the sea through the steep cliffs.
Here’s a great tip: Follow the small path that brings you closer to the coast, and you’ll find some incredible views!
Playa de Es Trenc
Es Trenc is considered to be one of the best beaches in Mallorca, and it’s also one of the best places to watch the sun go down.
Located in the southern part of the island, this natural beach is seven kilometres long, with beautiful white sand, crystal-clear waters and even some sand dunes further inland.
It truly is an almost paradisiacal setting to watch the sunset while soaking your feet in the transparent waters and enjoying a unique panoramic view of the Mediterranean during the summer.
Faro de Formentor
Also known as "the Fisterra of Mallorca", this 19th century lighthouse is 10 kilometres from Pollença and rises 210 metres above sea level. People consider it to be one the most charming places to enjoy a sunset on the island.
The Faro de Formentor lighthouse is located on a terrain as rugged as it is spectacular, which makes it even more appealing if you want to enjoy a sunset on a clear day.
The Faro de Formentor has become one of the most iconic symbols of Mallorca, and so if you’d like to witness a spectacular sunset from there, we recommend you go in good time, as parking spaces are often scarce in the late afternoon.
Sant Elm is a small fishing port located on the western side of Mallorca. From this historical enclave we can enjoy beautiful views of the Sa Dragonera islet, an especially stunning panoramic view at sunset.
The best area to enjoy the sunset from this peaceful corner of the island is from the path that runs along the coast up to Punta Blanca, where the views are spectacular. If you wish, you can continue along this same path until you reach the Torre de Cala en Basset. The views are certainly worth the effort!
Playa de Muro (Muro Beach)
If, as well as sunsets, you also love sunrises, and you’re looking for "instagrammable" locations for your photos, then in Playa de Muro you’ll find one of the best sunrises in Mallorca. This is because the sun rises over the northern part of the island and you can see it rising out of the sea.
This vast Blue Flag beach is located in Muro, next to Port d'Alcúdia, on the northeast coast of the island. It’s a very quiet area, and on windy days it’s common to see people practising water sports such as kite surfing, windsurfing, or paddle surfing.
Our favourite place to enjoy the sunrise from Playa Muro is from its old wooden pier, which gives us an idyllic view of a sea that seems to stretch out forever.
