A descent to the Mediterranean from the Torrent de Pareis canyon

The Torrent de Pareis is undoubtedly one of the most impressive natural sights of the Balearic Islands. To the north of Mallorca, where the Sierra de Tramuntana meets the sea, there’s a hidden valley of vertical rock formations up to 200 metres in height that have been sculpted by the action of water over thousands of years.

Here, Hotels VIVA tells you everything you need to know prior to visiting this destination on your next holiday!

An unmissable destination for visitors

The Torrent de Pareis canyon is located in Sa Calobra and was officially declared to be a natural monument in 2003. There are two coves with crystal-clear waters in the area, the Sa Calobra cove and the Torrent de Pareis cove, which is the most visited. These coves represent one of the few ways of accessing the Mediterranean Sea from the Sierra de Tramuntana.

During the summer, the Torrent de Pareis is a place where many tourists gather, despite its narrow dimensions, given that it is just 30 metres in length and 15 metres in width. The venue has been well harnessed by cultural events however, with concerts being held due to its excellent acoustic properties.

You’ll be amazed by the clarity of its waters and the imposing nature of the canyon’s vertical rock formations. It is certainly a spectacular place for taking photos and for appreciating one of the most mystical parts of the Mediterranean Sea, one that not everybody manages to experience.

Ways of reaching Torrent de Pareis

You can reach the Torrent de Pareis from the port of Sóller, which is the nearest, some 30 km away from the beach. The experience of approaching this natural monument from the sea is incomparable. For the return journey it is also much more convenient to go by boat.

You can also get there over land however, starting from the Ma-10 road running between Lluc and Soller. Over the course of this 14 km-long road you’ll find many bends, including the so-called “Nus de Sa Corbata” (literally, Tie Knot).

If you’re coming under your own steam it’s advisable to avoid this road in the early morning and at sunset, which is when the majority of tour buses tend to use it.

Meanwhile, to reach the Torrent de Pareis on foot, there are hiking routes for those who relish sport and an adrenaline rush. The route starts at Escorca, descending by the Torrente de Lluc canyon for an hour and arriving at the starting point of the Torrent de Pareis, known as Entreforc.

Services and conveniences

In terms of services, it’s worth noting that the Torrent de Pareis cove is a protected natural area, and consequently is not equipped with any services. At Sa Calobra cove however you’ll find bars, restaurants, toilets and lifeguard services.

Many excursions are conducted to Torrent de Pareis every year both on foot and by boat. What’s keeping you from visiting this natural marvel?
