This was built in 1861 and is 25 metres above sea level, on the small island of Alcanada, which was the rendezvous point for sailors due to sail to Alcudia port. In the event of an emergency, the lighthouse keepers sent out visual signals using a mirror or by flying a white flag so that sailors could set sail to save those in need of rescue, as long as the weather permitted it.
Located 210 metres above sea level on the tip of the Formentor peninsula is the Cap de Formentor lighthouse, inaugurated in 1863. A small chapel was built during its construction so that the employees could attend mass on Sundays and continue working.

For many years it represented a place of refuge for a considerable number of seafarers who were affected by the high winds off the Balearic Islands. Together with its keepers, this lighthouse was awarded the Beneficence Cross by the Spanish government in 1869.
