You can enjoy Mallorca’s charms in many different ways, including through sport. Many cyclists travel to the island in search of mountain biking routes in Mallorca because it’s usually the best way to enjoy the scenery, get to know every nook and cranny, and, at the same time, to do exercise. Even in the capital it’s very common to find great cycling routes.

Mallorca’s roads are the ideal place for cycle touring, whether you’re a professional mountain biker or a beginner looking for a bit of adventure. In this article, Hotels VIVA would like to tell you about the most popular mountain biking routes in Mallorca for people who want to discover the island in-depth. Are you ready for an adventure?

The route around Formentor

This is one of the most beautiful cycling routes around Mallorca and has a distance of 79.9 kilometres. Its level of difficulty is intermediate, given that it has lots of ascents and descents along its route. However, it’s one of the best routes for cyclists, because private cars and motorbikes can’t access the route between 10 am and 7 pm every day in July and August, making it the safest place for mountain biking in Mallorca.

The Cap de Formentor lighthouse offers some of the most spectacular views on the island, and so it isn’t surprising that this route is rated as one of the best cycling routes in the world. Ciclismo Formentor is one of the most googled terms online, and it’s an indispensable part of Mallorcan cycling. The route starts from Can Picafort, then passes through Alcudia, before finally arriving at the Mirador de Formentor, an obligatory stop.

The route also passes through such interesting places as Coll sa Creueta and Sa Talaia d'Albercutx. This exceptional mountain biking route has an added difficulty due to its altitude – but your efforts will be rewarded when you reach the incredible views of the Talaia d'Albercutx. Remember to bring plenty of water and take a breath of fresh air before you tackle the steep slopes!

The route around the port of Pollença

This route, which is 35.4 kilometres long and passes through the harbour area, is one of the best cycling routes on the island. It’s a low-difficulty route, making it the perfect route to enjoy spectacular views of the port and its contrasting landscapes without getting too out of breath.

The route starts in Puerto de Alcudia and continues through Alcúdia, Es Mal Pas beach, and Ermita de la Victoria, ending in the port of Pollença, after taking you along the beautiful coastal roads of Mallorca. If it gets a bit hot for you along the way, then you can easily stop off at any of the beaches en route.

Sa Calobra Route

Are you up for a challenge? The Sa Calobra route is one of the most famous cycling routes in Mallorca, and all because of how difficult it is. It’s 120.2 kilometres long and is a road route especially aimed at experienced or professional cyclists, given its long and complicated trajectory.

The route ends in Sa Calobra, a beautiful cove located in the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, which you’ll be able to appreciate along the way. Without a doubt, this is one of the best cycling routes to discover the landscapes of this Balearic mountain range.

The route starts in Alcúdia, then passes through Cala Tuent, and ends in Sa Calobra. If you’re an experienced cyclist looking to discover new challenges and new mountain biking routes in Mallorca, then we highly recommend this route.

The Llevant Route

The Llevant Natural Park, located in the Sierra de Levante, has one of the most popular cycling routes in Mallorca, due to its trajectory that alternates between the mountains and the rugged coast.

It has a circular path that is among the best cycling routes you can do in Mallorca. Located near Artà, you’ll be able to appreciate beautiful wild flowers and diverse mountainous landscapes along its route, with surprising rock formations, hills, and wetlands.

Its technical difficulty is medium-high, due to the steep slopes as you head towards the mountains, and the length of the route – around 200 kilometres. It starts in Son Serra de Marina, passes through Cala Millor, then Portocolom, and finally Campos, and from there you’ll start the return towards Son Serra de Marina.

Along the route, you can enjoy different activities such as visiting caves, resting on the beaches, or taking hiking routes. It’s accessible all year round, although we’d especially recommend you to do it in springtime, when the flowers are in full bloom and the weather is very pleasant.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our recommendations for you to explore the best cycling routes in Mallorca on your next visit. Are you up for discovering others? Grab your bike and let's get pedalling!
