Are you looking for charming hotels in Mallorca

Did you know that our island has been an inspiration for many artists? Mallorca has a leading role in the national and international art scene thanks to its status as the focal point of several social and intellectual movements.

This creative spirit permeates every nook and cranny of this island. Perhaps this is why some of our hotels have decided to exhibit some fascinating works of art that capture the charms of Mallorca as seen through the brushstrokes of many different talented artists.

Mallorca and art: a haven for creativity

"When I’m away from Mallorca, the sky just doesn't seem to me to be entirely clean, it's as if it needs a good dusting".

These words penned by the Catalan painter Anglada-Camarasa sum up one of the main attractions of Mallorca: its unique light, which is almost impossible to capture.

If we add to this the beautifully natural Mallorcan landscapes, we have the perfect setting for many artists.

In the 19th century, an influential Impressionist school emerged in Mallorca, in which we find names such as Antonio Ribas Oliver, who depicted the area of Deià with a unique sensitivity, or the aforementioned Anglada-Camarasa, whose work portrays the town of Pollença and its surroundings.

Among the island's outstanding painters are Ricardo Anckeman (with a style that pays special attention to light and colour), Gaspar Terrasa (more of a modernist), Llorenç Cerdà Bisbal (strongly influenced by Sorolla), Juli Ramis, and the landscape painter Antonio Fuster Fortaza.

Among the contemporary artists who are either Mallorcan or closely linked to our island, we can mention people such as Pep Llambías and Teresa Matas.

Beyond the canvas: VIVA's commitment to local artists

Aesthetic design is very important in all types of business.

This is also the case in hotels, where it's essential to create an ambience in which the guest feels truly at ease and which enhances their impressions of the hotel's quality and range of facilities.

Travellers and clients who choose VIVA hotels are very diverse and have a wide range of tastes and interests.

That's why we take many different factors into account when it comes to decorating our charming hotels in Mallorca.

One of the most important of these is light, both natural and artificial.

This is a basic element, as it has a significant influence on the room's ambience and the well-being of those staying there.

We also try to choose textures and coverings to create different effects, always looking for functional furniture that can blend in with the other pieces of furniture and with the overall size of the room.

However, in our case, and due to our unique location in natural surroundings, it's very important for our decoration to also evoke Mallorca's true charms, including its light.

By doing so, we are able to provide our clients with an almost immersive experience in which quality and exclusivity are the main focus.

In our attempt to combine comfort and beauty, we have chosen to exhibit works by local artists - or those with close ties to our island - in some of our suites and Premium rooms.

This is the case with Pep Llambías, born in Alaró, who we have many things in common with.

The most important of these is, without doubt, our love for Mallorca, and its natural surroundings, mountains, coast, and sea.

We also share Llambías' passion for the translucent, Mediterranean light, which takes centre stage in many of his paintings that we're pleased to be able to display in hotels VIVA.

Our commitment to art goes beyond aesthetics; we want to promote outstanding local artists, helping local art to cross borders.

This is why we exhibit works by other outstanding artists such as Olimpia Velasco and Teresa Matas.

Some of the works you can see in our VIVA Cala Mesquida Suites & Spa 16+ hotel are EL PESO DE LA LUZ (THE WEIGHT OF LIGHT) by Pep Llambías (2015), RED MAZE by Olimpia Velasco (2018) and ESTRELLA DEL MATÍ (MATI’S STAR) by Teresa Matas (2018), all of them inspired by our wonderful surroundings
