La oferta de cultura de Palma de Mallorca es de admirar, concretamente en lo que a museos en Mallorca se refiere. El museo de arte moderno y contemporáneo de Palma “Es Baluard” fue construido en el interior de la antigua muralla renacentista en el paseo marítimo de la ciudad. La inauguración del mismo se llevó a cabo en 2004 y dispone de un fondo artístico de más de 500 obras relacionadas con el arte moderno y contemporáneo de artistas vinculados a las islas. En “Es Baluard” también se imparte formación a través de actividades y ciclos educativos.
El “Museo de Mallorca”, por otra parte, centra su objetivo en ofrecer una vista general y apasionante a la historia de la isla, empezando por los primeros talayotes y llegando a piezas modernistas. Entre los elementos históricos que podréis descubrir en este museo se encuentra la reconstrucción de una cueva de entierro, la reproducción de un talayote y también la de un taller de cerámica antiguo, la colección de la evolución de armas, adornos y símbolos espirituales presentes en la isla a lo largo de su historia y un conjunto de materiales encontrados en el yacimiento del Turó de SesBeies que ponen de manifiesto el intento tráfico comercial de la isla en el siglo III a.C. Otro de los atractivos de este histórico museo de Mallorca es el edifico que lo alberga, construido en el siglo XVI y cuya misma arquitectura es digna de contemplar como obra de arte.
Para terminar, el “Museo Diocesano” es un museo que exhibe piezas del patrimonio artístico de la iglesia mallorquina y se sitúa en el Palacio Episcopal en Palma. En él encontramos siete secciones por las que veremos esculturas religiosas, elementos arqueológicos, cerámica moderna, arte religioso, pintura gótica y una increíble colección bibliográfica. Un total de más de 200 piezas expuestas en la exposición permanente y una sala con exposiciones temporales que va exhibiendo el resto de la colección que componen uno de los museos culturales más variado de la isla.
