El pasado sábado 9 de mayo, poco antes de las 8 de la mañana, se dio el pistoletazo de salida de la quinta edición del Thomas Cook Ironman 70.3 Mallorca justo enfrente del hotel Vanity Hotel Golf. Por delante 1.9 kilómetros de natación, 90 kilómetros de ciclismo y 21.1 kilómetros de atletismo que más de 3.500 participantes recorrieron a lo largo del día. Entre ellos se encontraban el alemán Andreas Dreitz y la suiza Daniela Ryf que, con marcas de 3 horas, 56 minutos y 48 segundos para el primero y 4 horas, 17 minutos y 25 segundos para la segunda, cruzaron la meta cerca del mediodía para convertirse en los vencedores de esta carrera que por quinto año se celebra en la bahía de Alcúdia.
Antes de empezar, como es habitual, nervios, ganas y sobre todo mucha concentración entre los participantes, entre los que se encontraban grandes triatletas como Michael Raelert, que ya ganó en Alcúdia en 2012, Mike Aigroz, tercero en el campeonato del mundo de Kona en 2014, JoeGambles, que consiguió la tercera plaza en el Campeonato del Mundo Ironman 70.3 y el español Iván Raña, que terminó en sexta posición por segundo año consecutivo. Entre las mujeres, Julia Gajer, sexta plaza en Hawai y quinta en ChallengeRoth, y Yvonne Van Vlerken, segunda en Alcúdia en 2013, también formaron parte de la extensa lista de atletas que quisieron poner a prueba su capacidad física en el Ironman de Alcúdia.
Como patrocinadores y colaboradores del Ironman 70.3 Mallorca, en Hotels Viva participamos activamente en este día tan especial para todos los amantes del mundo del deporte y fuimos testigos de excepción de cómo se desarrollaba la jornada. Entre el público se hablaba de favoritos y Andreas Dreitz era uno de los que sonaban con más fuerza para revalidar el título, ya que en 2014 ya se proclamó vencedor de la Ironman 70.3, y así fue. 852 atletas ingleses, 540 alemanes y 463 españoles formaron parte de la inmensa marea humana que se adentró en el Mediterráneo y recorrió las calles de la bahía de Alcúdia para desafiar los límites de su propio cuerpo.
La del pasado sábado fue una jornada que, como siempre, nos dejó a todos con ganas de más y es por ello que en Hotels Viva ya contamos los días para la próxima cita con el deporte más extremo: será el próximo 26 de septiembre cuando el Ironmanse celebre en la bahía de Alcúdia con su versión más exigente: 3.86 kilómetros de natación, 180 kilómetros de ciclismo y 42.2 kilómetros de atletismo. ¿Será entonces cuando alguien bata el record de 7 horas, 41 minutos y 33 segundos de Jose I Malpassi? ¡Lo sabremosdentro de pocosmesesmuycerca de Hotels Viva!
Success and effort at the fifth edition of the Ironman 70.3 Mallorca
Last Saturday May 9th, a few minuts before 8 AM, just in front of the hotel Vanity Hotel Golf the fifth edition of the Thomas Cook Ironman 70.3 Mallorca started. 1.9 kilometers swimming, 90 kilometers cycling and 21.1 kilometers of track were ahead of more than 3500 participants, including the German Andreas Dreitz and the Swiss Daniela Ryf, who crossed the finish line after 3 hours, 56 minutes and 48 seconds of competition the former and 4 hours, 17 minutes and 25 seconds the latter, and became the winners of this race that has taken place in Alcúdia for the fifth year.
Before the beginning there were nerves, enthusiasm and above all a lot of concentration among the participants, including great athletes like Michael Raelert, who won in Alcúdia in 2012, Mike Aigroz, who got the third position in Kona in 2014, Joe Gambles, who got the third position in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship, and the Spanish IvánRaña. Who got the sixth position for the second year in a row. Among the women, great athletes such as Julia Gajer, sixt in Hawai and fifth in Challenge Roth, and Yvonne Van Vlerken, second in Alcúdia in 2013, also were a part of the long list of athletes who wanted to test themselves in the Ironman of Alcúdia.

Among the audience everyone had a favorite and Andreas Dreitz was one of them, as he had the chance to become the winner for the second year in a row as he became the winner last year, and as you know, he did. 852 athletes coming from England, 540 coming from Germany and 463 from Spain were a part of the immense crowd that entered the Mediterranean Sea at first hour in the morning and went through the streets of Alcúdia to challenge the limits of their own bodies,
Last Saturday was a great day and it left us wanting some more, and that’s why in Hotels Viva we have started the countdown to the next appointment with the most extreme sport which will be next September 26th when the full Ironman takes place in the Bay of Alcúdia: 3.86 kilometers of swimming, 180 of cycling and 42.2 of running. Will it be then when someone beats the record of 7 hours, 41 minutes and 33 second held by Jose I Malpassi? We’ll know it in a few months very close to Hotels Viva!
