¡Ya llegan nuestras tres recomendaciones del mes! Primero nos gustaría hablar de la mayonesa, esa salsa mundialmente conocida y que se asocia más a la comida rápida que a otra cosa. Bien, pues si piensas en su nombre sabrás de donde procede… ¡Mahón!
Todo ocurrió cuando los franceses invaden la isla en 1756 y prueban el tradicional alioli. Quedan tan encantados que se llevan esta receta a Francia y allí se dio a conocer por toda Europa. Por cuestiones de gustos, quitaron el ajo (ese sabor tan español) de la receta y la denominaron mahonnaise en honor a su origen.
A día de hoy, en Mahón y en las Islas Baleares en general, se toma el alioli tradicional normalmente acompañado de pan torrado para picar antes de una comida. Aunque también le da un toque de sabor a pescados y carnes. ¡No dudes en probarlo!
Volviendo al tema de islas invadidas, si retrocedemos unos 500 años atrás - en 1287- el rey Alfonso III de Aragón desembarca en un pequeño islote cercano al puerto de Mahón. Su misión es conquistar Menorca que se encontraba bajo dominio musulmán. De ahí recibe el nombre de “Isla del Rey”. Cada domingo hay una salida en barca que llega hasta la isla y una visita guiada en el antiguo hospital militar que los ingleses construyeron en tiempos de guerra. Hoy en día está reformadoy debido a esta edificación la isla también es conocida como “Illa de l’Hospital” en catalán.
Cambiando de isla, nos vamos a Mallorca. En frente de la bahía de Santa Ponça se encuentra la Reserva natural de las Islas Malgrats. Se pueden ver perfectamente desde un estupendo mirador situado en lo alto de Santa Ponsa. A los niños quizás no le apasionen las vistas, pero tranquilos que en el mirador hay un parque bajo la sombra de un pinar. Que no te sorprenda el antiguo cañón, el mirador era un punto estratégico para la defensa de la zona.
Las Islas Malgrats son el hogar de gran cantidad de aves y su fondo marino son grandes campos de posidonia, planta acuática endémica del Mediterráneo. Por eso la zona es perfecta para, siempre con mucho respeto a la naturaleza, realizar deportes como pesca responsable, buceo, kayak o vela.

Here you have our three recommendations of the month! First we would like to talk about mayonnaise, world famous sauce. It's more associated with fast food than anything else. Well, if you think of its name you will know where it came from...Mahon!
It all happened when the French invaded the island in 1756 and taste the traditional aioli. They were so delighted that carried this recipe to France and there became known throughout Europe. For reasons of taste, they took garlic (that taste so Spanish) and they called mahonnaise in honor of its origin.
Nowadays, in Mahon and the Balearic Islands in general, traditional aioli is usually accompanied by toasted bread to snack before meal is taken. But also it gives a flavor to fish and meat. Do not hesitate to try it!

Every Sunday there is a boat that reaches out to the island and a guided tour in the old military hospital built in the British wartime. Today this building is renovated and many island people also know the island with the name "Illa de l'Hospital", "Island of the Hospital" in English.
Now we change of island, we go to Mallorca. In front of the bay of Santa Ponsa is the Nature Reserve Malgrats Islands. You can see it perfectly from a great viewpoint at the top of Santa Ponsa. Children perhaps didn't passionate views, but don't worry because there is a park under the shade of a pine forest. Don't be surprised by the old cannon, the viewpoint was a strategic point for the defense of the area.
Malgrats Islands are home to many birds and the seabed are large fields of posidonia, an endemic Mediterranean aquatic plant. So the area is perfect for, always with great respect for nature, do sports such as responsible fishing, snorkeling, kayaking and sailing.
