Mallorca is the perfect island for outdoor activities. While the wide-open areas are ideal for hiking and cycling, in the coastal areas you can practice water sports such as surfing, snorkelling and sailing.

At Hotels VIVA we have put together our top five list of outdoor activities in Mallorca, so get ready to have fun!

The best outdoor activities in Mallorca

  • Off-road buggies

Off-road buggies, which have a low body and wide tyres, are built from a car chassis and have become very popular in recent years.

This type of vehicle will let you discover Mallorca, either at a leisurely pace, or traversing wilder terrain among vineyards, valleys, or the beautiful lookout points.  In fact, their off-road design allows them to manoeuvre easily in the mountains, on the beach, along the coast, among dunes, in the meadows, or in the countryside.

In addition to this versatility, there are two other advantages: easy handling and safety.

All you need is a valid driving licence to try this experience.

  • Kayaking on the open sea

In our list of top outdoor activities in Mallorca, sea-related sports are a must.

Kayaks are small, long, narrow boats. The paddler sits inside, half-covered with a protective covering, and uses a double-bladed paddle.

Although in rough rivers this activity can be considered risky, in the calm waters of the Mediterranean it’s suitable for everyone, and no special skills are required to practice it.

What better way to discover the island than by following its coastline and getting exercise at the same time!

  • Flyboarding

Another of the most popular outdoor activities in Mallorca is flyboarding, an eye-catching sport that more and more people are trying.

As the name suggests, flyboards make you fly! Basically, they’re single-person boats equipped with a propeller that propels you several metres above the surface of the sea.

One of its peculiarities is how powerful it is, because the hoverboard is connected to a jet ski by means of a long hose, which makes it possible to drive and move the flyboard.

This, in turn, has a motor underneath, which provides enough power to keep you upright on the water for a long time.

  • Climbing

The cliffs of Mallorca give the island its unique beauty and turn it into a "paradise" where climbers test their limits while enjoying the unique surroundings.

Mallorca is the perfect setting if you’re trying this for the first time. In fact, it’s ideal for classic climbing, sport climbing and psicobloc climbing.

Of course, you should always hire professional companies and instructors, and follow the safety guidelines they give you.

In the Tramuntana mountain range there are many climbing schools due to the unique and rocky landscape of the area. Calviá, in the south, or Cala Magraner, are perfect for beginners in this sport.

Other very popular spots on the island with climbing enthusiasts are Sa Gubia (the largest mountain in Mallorca, with several expert-level climbing routes), Castell d'Alaró, Galilea, Puig Major and Es Gorg Blau.

  • Zip lines

Do you like combining sport with fun? If so, zip-lining is one of the best outdoor activities you can do in Mallorca.

On our island, you’ll find zip lines in amusement parks, water parks, and multi-adventure parks, and you can climb, take the zip line, and cross huge suspension bridges.

Two of the most popular companies that offer zip lines are Jungle Park and Tirolinas Go!, both very close to the capital city, Palma.

One of the advantages of staying at VIVA Hotels is their stunning location, as well as how close they are to the beaches and beautiful natural areas. And, as you’ve seen today, as well as enjoying the surroundings, you can do some of the outdoor activities we’ve suggested. We look forward to seeing you!
