One of the attractions in Mallorca are its summer markets and festivals. If you're lucky enough to spend your holiday in eastern Mallorca, we recommend you visiting some of these markets, since that way you'll get to know traditional and genuine Mallorca.

Strong points of Mallorca's markets

  • The local gastronomy products like Mallorcan honey, natural soap, sobrasada, craft cheese and wine that's all from the island.
  • The island's local craftsmanship in particular stands out. In Mallorca's markets you'll find everything from typical "llengo mallorquina" fabric to local ceramics, especially the traditional siurell and the "graixoneres de fang" a kind of clay pot used in Mallorcan homes to cook their traditional dishes, seasoned pork specialities, tumbet, Mallorcan soups, etc.

Markets in the north eastern part of the island are especially recommended

One of the most famous markets is the one in Alcudia, above all because the walled city creates a unique traditional environment. The streets are filled with colour, life and an extraordinary atmosphere. They are held each week on Tuesday and Sunday.

The Pollença market is especially noteworthy due to its originality and the charm of its endearing flower stands with all of the colours the whole town is decorated with.

The Artà street market is also definitely worth mentioning, in the island's north east. It's held on a pedestrian lane filled with charming cafés and surrounded by utterly charming little streets. The near-extinct 'llatra' technique is preserved in Artà, used to make baskets and other products using palm leaves.

The Palma de Mallorca market and Artdemossa

If you go to the island's nerve centre, Plaza Mayor in Palma on a Monday or a Friday (except in January and February where it isn't held) you'll find another very popular and frequented market.

The Sunset Market at the Puerto Portals yacht club is also a highly popular summer event in Mallorca. With live music and restaurants along the promenade, the market offers a selection of artists and artisans who paint, make handicrafts, clothing, or their own jewellery.

On the western part of the island, in the wonderful town of Valldemossa, the Artdemossa festival is held in July, where art, music, crafts and gastronomy come together in a wonderful area that attracts more and more visitors each year from all over Mallorca, whether locals or tourists.

The festival is divided into various sections: cultural exhibitions, paintings, artistic photography, and local music, handicrafts and gastronomy.

1st Goal: have a blast as a family

The main goal of a summer holiday is always to have a great time. If you are going with your family, you'll have to make sure that each member of the family can enjoy their favourite leisure activity: spa, sport, sunbathing, cultural tours, kids games, to each their own.

Hotels VIVA establishments have an activities programme and very comprehensive facilities so the whole family can have a great time! In addition to the family activities programme, there are a ton of entertainment options so the kids have a great time while the adults enjoy relaxing knowing they're happy and well attended to.
