Cala Millor, a paradise of turquoise water in Mallorca

Written by Elisabeth Blue | Sep 6, 2019 11:11:54 AM

Cala Millor is one of those places that seem to have been created deliberately in order to ensure perfect family holidays. Located on Mallorca’s eastern shores, it consists of a coastal complex with a highly-attractive beach of white sand and crystalline waters of the purest turquoise.

The main point of interest is its extensive beach, 1.8 kilometres long and 35 metres wide, which since the 1980s has been proudly flying the prestigious blue flag. This ensures that you’re going to find a beach with all the sanitary safeguards and all the services that you’ll need: showers, sun loungers, bars and restaurants and everything required to engage in the water sports of your choosing, among many other things. The possibilities are endless and can be tailored to meet the age, interests, experience and fitness levels of all.

Moreover, the water is relatively shallow, ensuring that the beach is both safe and fun for the smallest members of the family and for visitors who can’t swim or have mastered only the basics.

The beach boasts ramps for disabled visitors to ensure that nobody feels left out and everyone can enjoy some amazing sessions of sunshine and sand in this idyllic setting.

Cala Millor is more than just a beach

While it boasts an excellent beach, this is not the only attraction of Cala Millor. There’s much more to discover. Although the district itself is relatively new, Cala Millor is situated close to other more traditional parts of Mallorca, with centuries of history and an endless variety of highly interesting places to visit and explore.

Cala Millor belongs to the municipality of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, a highly-attractive town of some 5,000 inhabitants, nestling in a valley and featuring a charming, bucolic and peaceful landscape. But it also offers many services, both in terms of restaurants and shops. Its weekly market on Thursdays is ideal for buying fresh fruit and vegetables and craft ware.

On the cultural front, it is definitely worth paying a visit to the parish church of Sant Llorenç, a temple that exemplifies the most characteristic and singular features of Mallorcan baroque style: a flat, wide stone façade and a rectangular structure.

Meanwhile, the environs of the town are excellent for lovers of nature and hiking.
