Getting to know the best beaches in Mallorca is essential, especially if you have small children who may limit when in different ways.

Beaches for kids: what to bear in mind

Before making a list of the best beaches for kids in Mallorca, it's a good idea to take a look at some of the best tips for going to the beach with kids, and what facilities and characteristics a beach should have in order to be considered child-friendly.

Access. It's advisable to look for beaches that are easy to access, both on foot and with pushchairs.

✔ Services. We recommend going with children to beaches with services such as showers and changing rooms, with bars or supermarkets nearby.

✔ Shallow water. Beaches recommended for families should have quite shallow water, in the first stretch at least, with not too many waves. They should have a gentle gradient. In addition, the swimming area should be far away from rocks where children could slip or hurt themselves.

✔ Cleanliness. Both sand and water must be clean to avoid problems with cuts and allergic reactions, etc. Blue flag beaches meet this criteria.

✔ Safety. Family beaches have lifeguards and a Red Cross station to ensure bather safety.

✔ Play area. On beaches recommended for children, there are areas clearly designated for the practice of water sports. Bathing and play areas are also clearly marked out, and it's common to find signs and posters to this effect.

The best beaches in Mallorca for the whole family

  • Alcúdia Beach

Alcúdia Beach meets all the requirements for being one of the best beaches for kids in Mallorca.

With fine white sand, it's just over 3 kilometres long and, even though it tends to fill up in high season, the feeling of overcrowding is minimal.

Alcúdia Beach has showers, toilets, and lifeguards, as well as a chance to hire sun loungers and parasols. It's also very close to a promenade with shops and businesses.

Its clean waters and blue flag are two more of its great attractions.

  • Port and Dolç Beaches

These two sandy beaches are in Colonia de Sant Jordi and offer exceptional views of the island of Cabrera, one of the most recommended boat trips if you visit Mallorca.

The two beaches are separated by a small promenade and they're highly recommended by local families, because they're situated in a part of the island that's not very touristy.

Playa del Port also has a small area with pine trees that's ideal for resting or eating.

  • Muro Beach

Some say that the Muro beach is like a large open-air swimming pool and, because of this, it's one of the best beaches in Mallorca for parents and children to enjoy a dip.

Playa de Muro is one of the longest beaches on the island, more than 6 kilometres in length. It's near Alcúdia and stands out for its fine white sand and turquoise waters.

One of its main advantages for children is its small waves. In addition, you have to walk quite a way out to sea before kids will be out of their depth, which makes it safe for families with small children.

Muro beach is divided into several sections. The first has a promenade and is more touristy., while the second is somewhat quieter. The third section is part of the Natural Park of S'Albufera, a large wetland surrounded by pine trees and dunes where you can have a picnic or rest in the shade.

  • Cala Mesquida

Along with the coves of Moltó and Agulla we find the charming Cala Mesquida, a natural spot surrounded by pine trees - ideal for spending a quiet day by the sea.

This beach has fine sand and transparent water, and its facilities include sun lounger and parasol hire, a restaurant and bar, and showers, making it one of the best beaches in Mallorca to go with children.

  • Albercuix Beach

This Mallorcan beach is located in the northern part of the island. It has a blue flag and is right next to a long promenade full of shops and restaurants.

The beach is accessible, with shallow waters and few waves. You'll find several charming small areas of pine trees, some of which are shaded, and you'll be able to take a dip there after a recommended visit to the port of Pollença.

Albercuix is relatively close to the beach of Formentor, and is an idyllic place to enjoy the fresh air and spectacular views of the Tramuntana mountain range at any time of the year.
