Mallorca is an inspirational island that exudes art from every pore, and it has served as a creative outlet for artists from all over the world.

If you're an art lover, then Mallorca has plenty to offer you on your next getaway. The whole island in general, and Palma in particular, has a wealth of cultural attractions, including museums, artists' studios open to the public, and art galleries.

In fact, some say that the Mallorcan capital has more art galleries than any other Spanish city.

A guide to Mallorca’s art galleries

  • Pelaires (Palma)

Pelaires opened its doors in 1969 and, since then, it has established itself as one of the most outstanding contemporary art galleries in Spain. It's an essential stop for visitors to the island who love painting, sculpture, and architecture.

  • Gallery Red (Palma)

Gallery Red was founded by Drew Aaron, a well-known art collector who features on the list of top collectors under the age of 50. In recent years he has promoted exhibitions devoted to artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol.

One of the main attractions of this Mallorcan art gallery is its multidisciplinary spirit. In addition to the works of art, you can buy vintage bags, accessories, and other items featuring iconic designs.

  • ABA ART LAB (Palma)

ABA ART LAB is an attractive option for art lovers.

Located in a beautiful loft in the centre of Palma, this gallery showcases new artists and promotes projects and sketches by many young creators.

If you wish, you can also purchase works of Emerging Art.

  • AHOY! Art Gallery (Palma)

AHOY! Art Gallery is a centrally located gallery which exhibits works by international and national contemporary artists.

They have their own collection and provide an advisory service for collectors.

If you're thinking of investing in art, then this could be a good place to start, due to the combination of styles and artists which can help you create an excellent ensemble.

  • Sa Tafona (Deià)

This original art gallery is located in the Hotel Belmond La Residencia in Deià.

For years, it has been showcasing the work of Joan Miró, but also that of other contemporary artists with close ties to Mallorca, such as David Templeton and Arturo Rhodes.

One of its main appeals is that the exhibitions are constantly changing, and this brings in a large number of artists and art lovers.

  • Galería Gerhardt Braun (Palma)

With its headquarters in "art gallery street", Gerhardt Braun has been promoting its concept of integral art for several years.

These days, its impressive premises are a point of reference due to its dynamic and creative promotion of all contemporary artistic disciplines, including the conceptual artwork of Francesca Martí, Hristina Milanova, Josep María Sirvent, Burno Bisang and Rafa Macarrón.

In addition to its permanent collection, this gallery has temporary exhibitions that you shouldn't miss on your visit to Mallorca.

  • Kewenig Gallery (Palma)

This gallery is located in the Sant Feliu oratory, one of the oldest in Palma, situated in a beautiful 10th-century building that has been a synagogue, mosque and church (since the 12th century). Its Renaissance portal, on the main façade, and Gothic side portal are two of its most outstanding features.

The works in the Kewenig Gallery are unique, and they're usually the work of young, up-and-coming artists.

The owners, the Kewenigs, also own another art gallery in Berlin, which promotes artists and international exhibitions.

  • Galería Roy Petley (Pollença)

The charming town of Pollença, capital of the Sierra de la Tramuntana, is home to several art galleries such as the Galería Dionís, the Galería Maior, the Museo de Pollença and the Roy Petley gallery.

The latter is owned by the artist Roy Petley, an expert with more than 40 years of experience in providing art consultancy services.

If you’re looking for high-end artwork, his team can source pieces from some of the best artists around the world.

  • Galería HMH (Port d'Andratx)

This gallery houses hundreds of pieces created by around fifty different artists.

Its exhibitions are continually being updated, and include all kinds of styles, with a special focus on abstract art and pop art.

If you would like to invest in art, then this could be a good option. You'll find works ranging from 500 to 30,000 euros, with many sculptures in iron, steel, terracotta and wood for gardens and outdoor spaces.

The artists exhibiting at HMH Gallery include Jörg Döring, Carsten Westphal and Hans Christian Ribbe.
