"I’m a compulsive optimist" A VIVA conversation with Sebastià Vadell

Over coffee on the shores of the Mediterranean, Andreu Genestra interviews Sebastià Vadell to discuss the pandemic and the importance of transforming our perspective and outlook when faced with difficulties.

Sebastià is the CEO of Abbacino, a Spanish brand of handbags and accessories designed in Mallorca. In this interview, he reflects on the impact of the pandemic on the fashion sector, the importance of knowing how to adapt to new circumstances, and why we should be promoting everything local.

One of the examples of this adaptability is his very own brand, which, at the beginning of the pandemic, started to design and manufacture approved, breathable face masks that took the market by storm. With more than 1.3 million masks sold worldwide, Abaccino was able to create a fashionable product based on a real need at a critical time, and, at the same time, help to keep hundreds of jobs alive on the island.

"If the pandemic has taught me one thing, it’s that we can’t sit around doing nothing. We have to be open, observe what's happening, and then act.”
