MAJORCA - CALVIà

Culture and History

Along history, Calvià has welcome several peoples who left an important cultural legacy on it. Doubtless, a big contribution that reflects on its art heritage, which is very rich and goes from Pre-Roman Talaiotical age till nowadays.

a. Puig de Sa Morisca’s archaeological Park

It is a Talaiotical settlement situated on a hill side (Puig de Sa Morisca). Beside its historical interest it offers to visitor a splendid view of the slope. In order to make a better route to know the park better we suggest to divide it into different sections: Starting on the Acropolis, then following by the rocky shelters on the eastern side of the hill where we find some defence elements of this human settlement on the way to the top.

b. Turó de Ses Abelles

This is another Talaiotical settlement that is unique for being right by the sea. This archaeological site is located on a hill by the left entrance of Santa Ponça’s golf resort. This site was formerly surrounded by some lagoons and wet areas of which just a few ones survive at the present time.

c. Sa Naveta Alemany

“Sa Naveta” is an isolated horseshoe-shaped structure with a rear apse, parallel arranged double-face walls and an access area delimited by a small corridor. It dates from the years 1700/1600 BC.
d. Sa Mesquida

Nearby Sta.Ponça’s bay, Sa Mesquida is considered the first Roman villa found in Majorca.

e. Torre des Cap Andritxol

It is a cylindrical structure that consists of a chief vaulted room built up with masonry and an upper terrace. It must also be remarked the linteled porch situated 4mts over the ground. Owing to its strategic position it was a defence tower.
