“Moros y Cristianos”, Pollença. (Majorca)

The 26th of July starts in Polleça the Patrona festivity, a religious ancient festivity. The cannon shots, firecrackers and the pealing bells open the feasts programmes, which are extended until the 2nd of August, day of the “Mare de Déu dels àngels”, with a great range of activities addressed to everybody. The central event of the festivity is a mock fight between the “Moros” and the “Christians” that remembers the Pollença’s battle against the 1,500 Muslims leaded by the Dragut pirate, the 30 of May, 1550. The battle was won by the Pollença’s citizens, and from that date till now this victory has been celebrated.
